I didn't know where to start. What will I bake? First I looked up basic baking for beginners and I got many simple tips. Many such as; get all of your ingredients out before you start cooking to make sure your prepared, mix all your wet and dry ingredients together then into one bowl and use measuring cups instead of teaspoons because they come in all different sizes. Then I searched in the internet different things to bake for beginners and it showed a lot of cookies and brownies. Finally, I asked my moms friends Deb who always bakes for us and she gave me recipes to lemon cake and banana muffins.
First was the cookies. I found a recipe on the internet called Thick n Chewy and they were chocolate chip cookies. Every good baker can make the simple chocolate chip cookies and since thats what I was striving to be I thought it was a good place to start. I got all my things ready on my counter, mixed them together and put them in the oven for 15 minutes and then they were done and man, those cookies were good. Secondly, I attempted to bake banana muffins with the recipe I was given and they weren't a great success. After I put them in the oven and took them out they tasted like rubber. Turns out I forgot the butter and added 3 eggs not 1, oops. My last attempt at baking for this project was chocolate chip blondes. I'm not exactly sure what they were supposed to be in the first place but they looked good. It was originally supposed to be with mini eggs but I bought smarties but left them at school so chocolate chips were good enough. As I was mixing together my mixture it looked like my cookie dough so I thought it was going to be one big cookie so I was like alright, why not? But after I put it in the oven for 40 minutes and let it cool, it did NOT taste like cookies… More like cardboard. I'm not sure why this recipe went wrong and why it tasted like that. Maybe it was the chocolate chips but I didn't think it was a huge deal.
To me, this project was a success. I may not have had the best luck with the out come of my baking but overall I have found something new and different that I enjoy doing. I may not make a career out of this but I know I am going to keep baking in the future to become a better baker and learn many new things. I've learned that instructions are there for a reason and are meant to be followed or you may run into trouble and also just because you're not good at something the first couple times you try it, never give up because maybe in the future it will just come naturally (hopefully me). I still have a long list of the different things I'm going to try and make and hopefully they will be tasty and successful.
